Reading & Listening for Awareness & Inspiration

  • Colette Dowling: Red Hot Mamas: Coming into Our Own at Fifty

Colette Dowling: Red Hot Mamas: Coming into Our Own at Fifty
Although this book was published 12 years ago I couldn't put it down. I laughed.... and I deeply reflected about the life of a woman once she turns 50 - the often times intensity of it, the new opportunities that show up, the changes in body and relationships/love life, financial health, and our fears of aging in a culture that doesn't particularly honor that process. I give this book 5 stars! G.A.

  • Invisible No More LLC: Invisible No More:: The Secret Lives of Women Over 50

Invisible No More LLC: Invisible No More:: The Secret Lives of Women Over 50
This is simply a phenomenal book! These three women have come out in public and revealed their souls to those of us who are walking the same path after 50. What struck me the most was the depth of honesty and vulnerability that Joyce, Renee and Jean revealed to us. Along with this was the encouragement to recreate yourself, and take, what I call, that quantum leap in life in complete trust and faith as the dependency on "security" fades into the background. The message I got loud and clear throughout this book was identify your purpose or dream in life, keep your focus on it throughout the inevitable fear, take action steps...and watch the universe align to support you as the creativity and opportunities come flowing in. It is a course that many of us 50+ women are taking as we realize that we are an incredible untapped resource for our planet, as well as for shifting the paradigm of aging for women.

  • Barbara M. Morris: Put Old on Hold

Barbara M. Morris: Put Old on Hold
I adore this book!! A great wake-up call for Boomers to take a look at their choices to stay healthy for as long as they live, and an invitation to take an inventory of thoughts about aging. You may be surprised at how you are contributing to the so called "signs of aging"...and more importantly how you can drastically change course by changing your attitude. A must read for all ages and genders!!

  • Joan Anderson: A Year by the Sea: Thoughts of an Unfinished Woman

Joan Anderson: A Year by the Sea: Thoughts of an Unfinished Woman
A beautifully revealing true story for all of those women who have "lost" themselves amidst the demands and needs of others. One woman's self discovery, within the support of nature, to reveal and release untapped resources that were brought to realization. Result? The transformation of the life of an "unfinished woman" filled with possibilities. Reminded me of "Gifts From The Sea"! G.A.

  • Wayne W. Dyer: Change Your Thoughts - Change Your Life: Living the Wisdom of the Tao

Wayne W. Dyer: Change Your Thoughts - Change Your Life: Living the Wisdom of the Tao
Perhaps one of Wayne Dyer's best creations! Use it as a bedside or meditation ritual to bring the wisdom of the Tao te Ching into action in your daily life. Beautiful outside and deeply moving inside!

  • Pamela D. Blair: The Next Fifty Years: A Guide for Women at Mid-Life And Beyond

Pamela D. Blair: The Next Fifty Years: A Guide for Women at Mid-Life And Beyond
wow! What a great book! Provides more than 150 essays covering topics specific to women and aging such as self-image, health, finances, relationships, creativity, fears. etc., along with words of wisdom & humor from women 50+ Also includes journal space for your own thoughts and feelings.

  • Florence Falk: On My Own: The Art of Being a Woman Alone

Florence Falk: On My Own: The Art of Being a Woman Alone
Take these statements by the author and fly with them, "Aloneness is an opportunity for renewed life - NOT a life sentence.....In the space of aloneness - and perhaps only there - a woman is free to admit and act on her own desires."... This book has given me great insight on why my solitude has been so very important to cultivate. For all women whether single or not, to teach about fully living and loving!

Midlife Opportunity: Support Strong, Confident Women!

15628186_2 Reflecting today on how much more confident and stronger women can become as they age, with increased self awareness and clarity, I realized that this time of life also provides opportunities to reach out woman to woman.  There may be women in your everyday life, in your communities, state, nation, or world that could benefit immensely just by your presence.  Often it can be a simple thing such as listening deeply, acknowledging strengths and challenges, or simply letting another know that you are there.

WildlyFreeWoman is committed to providing resources for you to become involved in the lives of other women who may need just what you have to offer - your strength, courage and wisdom - thus igniting their own.  In my mail yesterday ...

was a letter from Women for Women International which was founded in 1993.  This non-profit helps women in war torn regions rebuild their lives by providing financial and emotional support, job skills training, rights awareness and leadership education, and access to business skills, capital and markets.  Through the program women become CONFIDENT, INDEPENDENT AND PRODUCTIVE, as they embrace the importance of their roles in rebuilding their families, their communities, and ultimately their nations. This is NOT just giving women money or other aide that may be needed, but is an on going program towards self sufficiency and thriving! When I was in Bali last year for a Global Healing conference I had the privilege to be in a workshop with Lynn Twist (The Hunger Project & "The Soul of Money").  From her experience working globally with the challenge of hunger she found that it was not an economic problem, but one of empowerment for women.  She stated that once women were given opportunities and support the entire village/community would turn around and move into thriving, and out of hunger and poverty thinking.

Until October 31st your donation to this organization is doubled dollar for dollar.  There is also an opportunity to sponsor a woman from the country of your choice for only $27/month.  This is not a passive sponsorship.  You will actually develop relationship with your "sister" and learn together the impact that a woman supporting another woman, in all that she can be, has.  I invite you to go to www.womenforwomen.org and explore.
